Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how WhiskyBark handles information when you visit whiskybark.com, use its tools or send us a message.
We aim to collect only the information that is reasonably needed to operate the website and the features you choose to use.
Information we collect
You can read public WhiskyBark articles without creating an account. Technical information, such as IP address, browser details, requested pages and security events, may be handled by our web server and analytics services when you visit.
When you register a Dog Parent account, we handle information you provide for registration, login, email verification and account management, such as your email address and account profile details. Passwords are processed for authentication; they are not displayed back to you as readable passwords.
If you choose to use the registered Health Passport, we store the dog profiles and veterinary information you enter, including vaccinations, visits, medication details and medical documents you upload. These records are held on our server rather than solely in your browser.
Contact messages
If you contact WhiskyBark through the website, we collect the information you enter into the contact form. This can include your name, email address, enquiry type, subject and message.
Contact submissions are stored so that we can review the message, respond when appropriate and keep track of enquiries.
Dog Passport data
WhiskyBark currently offers two different ways to keep information about your dog.
Guest Dog Passport: The guest feature at /my-dog/ stores the profile you save in this browser's local storage. Clearing that browser's site data, using another browser or device, or changing devices may make this locally saved profile unavailable. Creating the local profile does not, by itself, create a registered server-side dog profile.
Some personalized tools may send profile details you choose to use as part of a tool request. For example, Ask Whisky may include selected guest profile details in a request to our server. Browser-local storage does not mean those details are never transmitted when you use another feature.
Registered Dog Parent and Health Passport: When signed in, you can create dog profiles and keep health records and documents in your account. This information is stored on WhiskyBark's server and is available according to your account access and sharing choices. Guest and registered profiles are separate features at present; information is not automatically migrated between them.
How we use information
We use information to operate and secure the website, respond to contact enquiries, authenticate accounts, verify email addresses, manage your dog profiles, provide Health Passport tools, process the sharing options you select, troubleshoot problems and improve reliability.
Public-page analytics helps us understand website usage. We do not use contact-form details to create hidden advertising profiles about visitors.
How long information is kept
Guest Dog Passport profiles remain in browser storage until you remove them or the browser clears its site data. Contact messages may be kept as reasonably necessary to respond and maintain appropriate records.
Registered account and Health Passport information is kept while needed to provide the account and its features, subject to deletion requests, applicable obligations and operational requirements. Account deletion removes the associated account and records through the service's deletion workflow, while file cleanup may take additional processing time. Some information may remain temporarily in backups or records retained for legal or security needs.
We do not promise an exact backup or log-deletion period here; please contact us if you need information about a particular deletion request.
Security
WhiskyBark uses access controls and other technical and administrative measures intended to protect information. Registered health documents are stored separately from public editorial media and are delivered through authorization checks. Sharing links are intended to limit access to selected information for a limited period.
No online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong account password and avoid posting sharing links or medical documents publicly.
Links to other websites
WhiskyBark articles and resources may link to websites operated by other organisations. Their privacy practices are controlled by them, not by WhiskyBark.
If you follow an external link, you should review that website's privacy information if you want to understand how it handles your data.
Your privacy choices
You may read public articles without registering, decide whether to submit contact enquiries, and manage your guest Dog Passport and browser cookies using the relevant website features or browser settings.
Registered dog parents can manage their account and dog information, edit or remove supported health records, revoke sharing links and request account deletion using the account tools. Changing a browser-local guest profile does not automatically change registered server-side data.
You can contact us about information associated with your account or submissions. We may need to verify your identity before handling a request involving personal information.
Changes to this policy
WhiskyBark may update this Privacy Policy as the website develops, new features are introduced or our information-handling practices change.
When the policy is materially updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be changed accordingly.
